I love it when I feel I capture a persons likeness and bring it to life. Through the years I have improved and honed my portrait painting. I still get nervous when I show people and get their responses as to getting the features RIGHT.

 

Animals

Years ago I used pastels as my medium preference. My son was playing with our Boston Terrier, Max and I snapped a picture. It was so cute I decided to recreate it with pastels (Austin and Max). That was my first , and for many years, my last animal artwork.

A friend and co-worker asked me if I painted animals and  proceeded to convince me to take a chance painting her husband’s dog (Please).

I’ve painted several since. Many of my commissions are is of pets who have died.  Sweet Biscuit is such a tribute.

I did find out that animals are difficult, especially  capturing the uniqueness of a pet, not just paint a collie or pug.
